Where founders go to see how Randy thinks before committing to anything.

Long-form fireside chats, war stories, and post-mortems on what kills first hardware projects. Not gated lead magnets. Not sales content. The actual reasoning, with names filed off.

Currently being built out. Drop your email and Randy will tell you when the first pieces land.

The twenty decisions that reliably make or break a first hardware product.

Self-paced. Written and recorded by Randy, based on patterns he keeps seeing across thirty-plus engagements. Not a bootcamp — a reference manual in video form, organized by decision, not by topic.

The waitlist is open. Early access and a founder-only price for the first fifty seats.

Clarity Call
$497
60 minutes · delivered in 5 business days
Book a Clarity Call

A written roadmap for your hardware project. Sixty minutes with Randy. No junior staff.

You bring the product idea, the constraints, the money you have, and the questions you haven’t been able to answer. Randy listens, asks, pushes back, and then builds a custom 4–6 page roadmap: architecture, component choices, risk areas, engagement estimate.

You also get thirty days of email Q&A (five questions) after delivery. If you book a Fractional engagement within sixty days, the $497 is credited.

/ 04 — Flagship offer

Fractional Technical Partner.

Randy embeds in your project as the technical co-founder you don't have. The unit is $6,000 per engagement — one block of 40 focused hours, delivered over approximately 4 weeks.

The Clarity Call determines how many engagements your project needs. Each engagement is contracted separately with its own scope of work.

The case

Why founders choose this over hourly work.

You know what it costs.

No bleeding out from someone running up hours on Upwork. One number, one engagement, one deliverable.

Randy absorbs the risk.

If a sensor takes longer than expected to integrate, that's on Randy — not your invoice.

Outcome, not clock.

If Randy finishes in 30 hours instead of 40, you still get the full deliverable for $6,000. You’re paying for the result.

Commit one block at a time.

Each engagement is its own SOW. End after any block — no obligation to continue.

Randy absorbs
Technical uncertainty, inside scope.
  • Libraries that break
  • Sensors harder than expected
  • Integrations that take longer
  • Debugging the weird stuff
You absorb
New scope. Priced upfront.
  • Change Orders, in writing
  • Scoped and priced before work begins
  • No surprise billing, ever
  • Either side can end cleanly after any block

Exploratory pricing

$9,000 per engagement, when the work is genuinely unknown.

Projects with significant technical uncertainty — novel sensor platforms, unvalidated approaches, never-done-before integrations — are quoted at a 50% premium. The bucket (standard vs. exploratory) is determined transparently during the Clarity Call, not surprise-billed later.

Start a conversation

Unconventional problems. R&D budgets. Things the rest of the ladder doesn’t cover.

SBIR support. Applied R&D. IP and patent work. Ground-truth data collection for AI/ML. Sensor integration research. Problems where the answer to "has this been done before" is honestly no.

Engaged by inquiry. The first conversation is free — Randy will tell you quickly whether it’s a fit for him or whether you need a different kind of partner.

The first step is a ninety-minute call.

Book a Clarity Call. If your project isn't a fit for AVA Labs, Randy will tell you that on the call — and point you somewhere that is. Either way, you walk away with a written roadmap.
